Welcome to Stitches by Karen Taylor

Independent pattern designer

I started this enterprise with the support of my friend Kay, who owns the delightful Fabric Corner shop here in Lincoln. At first each pattern was traced out by hand, individually, until I made another new friend, Su, who happened to own a business in pattern printing: the wonderful Patternsy. Along the way, other small business owners have supported me by stocking my patterns in their shops. These are Gail from Stitch Witch in Market Rasen, Jayne from Jaylaurs in Brigg and Amy from The Fabric Quarter in Lincoln. I am very proud to be a part of this lovely group of small businesses in Lincolnshire.

Our aim

Stitches by Karen Taylor is a small, independent sewing patterns business that strives to offer designs which are flattering, comfortable, easy to make and in a wide range of sizes. Most of the dress sewing patterns range from size 10 to 26. The bag patterns come with all the parts drawn out for you. All you have to do is cut the paper pattern and place it on the fabric. The accompanying instructions are numbered and illustrated with photos of each step of the process. All patterns available only in printed version on Patternsy Paper.

Story of Stitches by Karen Taylor

Stitches by Karen Taylor started when I moved to Lincoln, Lincolnshire, in 2014. My son, for whom I made colourful and interesting shirts, encouraged me to drop out of teaching at primary schools and take up fashion designing again. Through teaching dressmaking and pattern cutting, I realised how much my clients enjoyed making their own clothes. This inspired me to come up with stylish designs that are easy to make in a wide range of sizes. Most of my sewing patterns take their names from places I love in Lincoln, like Lincoln Arboretum, which you can see in this photo.
